Tla-melaua, Journal of Social Sciences, is a means of scientific communication in the disciplines of Political Science, Sociology and International Relations, which reflects the most innovative and socially relevant research agendas of the Latin American Social Sciences, with the purpouse to understand and, eventually, transform the social reality through a scientific vision that corresponds to our cultural expression.
The journal is a gathering space for new and established researchers of Universities, Institutes and Research Centers in Mexico and abroad (public and private). In this sense, its main objectives are:
• To create links among the research developed in the Postgraduate Programs in Social Sciences (masters and doctorates) offered in the country, particularly those with recognition in the National Postgraduate Program in Quality of CONACYT.
• To become a highly rigorous publishing space to exhibit the research that is generated in its graduate programs through out Latin America.
• To link the research developed by Mexican postgraduate students (masters and doctorates), on academic exchange in Universities, Institutes and Research Centers abroad.
The magazine publishes two types of articles: Research and Review. The first ones must be original research results (theoretical and /or empirical) of any type of study that responds to specific problems of Latin American. The second should be the result of a critical review of the state of discussion on a specific topic according to the thematic profile of the journal. Tla-Melaua is a biannual periodicity (April - September and October - March of each year). The official language of the journal is Spanish; however, articles written in English and Portuguese may be submitted. The magazine is aimed to a wide and varied public, among which stand out: researchers, undergraduate students, postgraduates, intellectuals, public officials, social activists and public interested in the research agendas of the countries of the region. Starting with publishing number 46, Tla-melaua inaugurates a new era marked by the restructuring of its sections, in order to reach a wider audience; that is, that it overcomes the limited academic enclosure in order to fulfill a social function that contributes to the discussion of the most pressing public issues. Through the sections of essays, critical reviews, documents and interviews, the magazine aims to account for the main debates on the sociopolitical world of this region. With this editorial profile, Tal-melaua goes beyond the merely academic publication typologies to reach and be part of the public space sphere. Aware of the academicist ostracism imposed on journals inserted unidirectionally in the perverse rail of the Impact Factor (FI) and its correlative commercial model of science, -as the only means to assess the quality of research done in Latin America- ; Tla-melaua vindicates the social and pedagogical dimension of the social science research journals published with funds and public infrastructure so that the multiplicity of views on topics of political, social and cultural interest transcend from the narrow margins of the University and specialized audiences to the public. In any case, this reconfiguration of the sections represents an opportunity not only to communicate results of scientific research, but to reflect collectively on the reality of our countries from flexible writing genres, such as an essay, critical review, documents and interviews. With this balance in the table of contents we reach, on the one hand, non-specialized readers and, on the other, the scientific communities that cultivate the disciplines of the Social Sciences with a greater academic severity. Finally, with this publication the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences through the Coordination of Evaluation and Scientific Communication assumes its social commitment to disseminate scientific research from the Global South.
